Byrån för Glömda Saker

The bureau of Forgotten Things

An interactive theater event for children, in collaboration with Göteborg Stadsmuseum.

In september, 2023, the Byrå hosted a children’s storytelling event at Lilla Änggården’s public event, celebrating the opening of their new public garden.

At the event, children and their families walked to a special place in the forest, where they were greeted by the Skogs Väsen. The Väsen told guests a story of the time he met the Fiddlebunks, a migratory creature that seeks out humans’ flower gardens. At the end of the event, guests could hear the song of the Fiddlebunks far away in the forest.

Have you ever heard of a Fiddlebunk? I’m not surprised if you haven’t. They were rare creatures even when I was a child, and that was nearly 400 years ago now. Back then, this forest was full of creatures like me – rattlebugs and talking fish and a family of friendly witches who lived up the hill. There was Little Troll, my friend who rode on the back of a magpie, and Big Troll who was always angry and lived in a swamp where the highway is now. And of course there was my friend Emmy; a human child – just like you.

But Fiddlebunks were the rarest of them all. Until I saw and heard one with my eyes and ears I thought they were just a story. I should have known, though. I should have known that they were real because in my long life, I have learned that most stories – in some way or another – are true.
